Alley Family Scholarship Fund
Richard and Cindy Alley met as geology majors at Ohio State University, and in 1988, Richard was hired as a geology professor at Penn State. The couple has two children, Janet, who received an elementary education degree from Penn State, and Karen, who has gone into the field of geology. In 2007, Richard’s contributions to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won a Nobel Prize. He has traveled extensively for research excursions and testified before Congress and the US Vice President. The Alley Family Scholarship Fund will award SCAHS seniors, who have excelled science classes or clubs, and are planning to pursue a post-secondary program in the field(s) of earth science, geoscience, environmental science, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to students who have applied to or have been accepted into any of these majors at Penn State. The committee will decide to split available funds between two students or to make one large award to a single student.
